Former WT Vice President passes away

The Australian Mr. Philip Coles this Jan 28. Respected and professional former IOC member and World Taekwondo vice president, left a legacy for the taekwondo community.

World Taekwondo is deeply saddened by the passing of former Vice President Philip Coles who passed away on Jan. 28.

Mr. Coles was dedicated to the advancement of Taekwondo and was a deeply respected and loved member of the World Taekwondo family. He served as World Taekwondo Vice President from 2008 before becoming Honorary Vice President from 2013 to 2017.

Mr. Coles’ love of sport was reflected in the numerous positions he held in international sport, including as an IOC Member from 1982 to 2012 and as an Honorary IOC Member from 2012.

Mr. Coles’ contribution to the development of Taekwondo and international sport will live on and he will not be forgotten.

A memorial altar will be established in his memory at World Taekwondo Headquarters in Seoul between Jan. 30 and Feb. 1.
