Taekwondo together with other 27 sports, were announced by IOC for the initial list of Federations that will have a spot on 2028 LA Games.
“As we look at additional sport recommendations, we will continue to focus on sports that are relevant to Los Angeles, provide an incredible fan experience and contribute to the success of the Games”, LA 2028 chair Casey Wasserman said in a press release. “We want to build on tradition, while progressing the Olympic Games forward.”
This list will be approved by IOC session in February 2022. From the sports that performed at Tokyo Olympics, three are left out, -weightlifting, boxing, and modern pentathlon- but could be include again in 2023 if they show an improvement at that time.
World Taekwondo had a spectacular performance at Tokyo Olympics, with many improvements in matters of Video Replay and competition structure that worth to preserve its spot at Paris 2024 and now at LA 2028.

All this to take more athletes to Paris 2024 and LA 2028, we are sure that with all the efforts that we are doing, and will continue doing, we will give more chances to our athletes to bring more medals for our beloved region”, expressed Juan Manuel Lopez, PATU President.
